The Refugee Law Lab is hiring! We currently have four positions available:

Summer Research Assistant in Law & Technology (JD student, any Canadian law school) (Deadline: Feb 1)

The Refugee Law Laboratory (RLL) is looking to hire a summer JD research assistant with an interest in law and technology. Candidates with technical backgrounds in web design, data science, computer science, statistics, software engineering, and related fields will be prioritized. The successful candidate will assist the Lab with several ongoing projects, including maintaining an online refugee law reporter, assisting with the development of a refugee law legal analytics app, and revising the Lab’s website. The position will include both technical work (e.g. website design, data cleaning) and legal work (e.g. helping to draft terms of service for open access legal analytics applications). The position is open to law students at any Canadian law school.

Summer Research Assistant in Immigration and Refugee Law (Osgoode JD student) (Deadline: Feb 1)

The Refugee Law Laboratory (RLL) is looking to hire a summer Osgoode Hall Law School JD research assistant with an interest in refugee law. The successful candidate will assist the Lab with several ongoing projects, including law journal articles about Canada’s refugee determination system and about artificial intelligence and other new technologies in the migration law context.

Part-Time Student Backend Developer (Undergrad/grad student, any Canadian university) (Deadline: Feb 8)

The Refugee Law Lab is looking for a part-time Student Backend Developer to join a team that currently includes a law professor, a research lawyer, a data scientist, a software engineer, and a front-end developer who are building a legal analytics app to help lawyers draw on insights from data about Canada’s refugee determination system to advance the interests of refugee claimants. The Student Backend Developer will help us develop and document a REST API to interface with databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB.

Part-Time Cloud Engineer (Deadline: Feb 8)

The Refugee Law Lab is looking for a part-time Cloud Engineer to join a team that currently includes a law professor, a research lawyer, a data scientist, a software engineer, and a front-end developer who are building a legal analytics app to help lawyers draw on insights from data about Canada’s refugee determination system to advance the interests of refugee claimants. The Cloud Engineer will help us migrate the app from Azure Kubernetes Service to an Openstack-based private cloud infrastructure, as well as introduce and improve general DevOps practices.
