Sharp Borders: Technology, Pushbacks, and Interdisciplinary Investigation

15 November 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm EST

As borders sharpen all around the world, new technologies are making various human rights abuses possible. Join our interdisciplinary panel of journalists and civil society to discuss the growing practice of pushbacks at European borders, facilitated by increased surveillance and a lack of accountability. Our panel includes audio journalist Lydia Emmanouilidou, investigative reporter Giorgos Christides, and migrant justice organizer and co-founder of Josoor Natalie Grueber, reflecting on broader trends and individual cases from the frontlines.

This event is also a fundraiser for Josoor, an association which supports survivors of pushbacks from Greece and Bulgaria while monitoring human rights violations as an active member of the Border Violence Monitoring Network, a project of 15 grassroots organisations collecting testimonies of pushbacks in an open source database used in their work advocating for an end to border violence in Europe.
